Quick Answer: The only full-size Fisher-Price basketball hoop sold new in 2026 is the Grow-to-Pro Basketball Set, now made under license by Sunny Days Entertainment. It adjusts from 28 to 48 inches in five steps, comes with three balls and a water-or-sand base, and Walmart.com listed it at $67.20 on November 4, 2026. That 4-foot ceiling makes it a toddler hoop, not the 3-to-6-foot Grow-to-Pro many parents remember: those Mattel-made models (72408, L5807, J5970, DTM17) are discontinued. For a cheaper hoop with the same 4-foot top height, the Little Tikes TotSports Easy Score costs $34.99.

Published November 4, 2026. Current prices come from Walmart.com and Target listings checked the same day. Heights, model numbers and sale years for the older models come from Mattel’s own product-service pages and instruction sheets on service.mattel.com. Recall figures come from CPSC recall notices 99-036 and 01-149. We don’t test toys ourselves; this guide compares published specs.

Search “Fisher-Price basketball hoop” and you’ll get a mix of new listings, years-old listings and secondhand sets, all using the same Grow-to-Pro name. Here’s what we found when we went through them:

1. Grow-to-Pro Basketball Set (2026): The One to Buy

Fisher-Price Grow-to-Pro Basketball Set (2026)

Ages 18 months - 5 years · 28-48 in rim · $67.20 at Walmart.com
  • Five rim heights: 28, 33, 38, 43 and 48 inches, per the product images.
  • Three balls included; the base fills with water or sand.
  • Snap-together assembly with no tools, for indoor or outdoor use.
  • Made under license by Sunny Days Entertainment, per The Toy Book.
  • Price is all over the place: Walmart's $67.20 is $22.21 above the $44.99 MSRP The Toy Book lists.

This is the hoop most people mean when they search for a Fisher-Price basketball hoop, and the only full Fisher-Price hoop we found in stock at a major US retailer. Walmart sells and ships it itself, and its listing rates it for 18 months to 5 years. The rim starts at 28 inches, low enough for a child who has just started walking, and moves up 5 inches per step.

There are two catches. The first is height: 48 inches is 4 feet, so this is a toddler hoop. The older Mattel-made Grow-to-Pro went up to 6 feet and could last until about age 6. The second is price. The Toy Book lists the MSRP as $44.99 and The Toy Insider, covering the same Sunny Days summer 2026 line, lists $69.99, so it’s hard to tell what a fair price is. Walmart’s $67.20 is close to the higher figure. The listing also doesn’t say how much water or sand the base takes, so fill it to the line on the base and keep it on level ground.

2. Soft & Safe Basketball Set: Best for Indoor Play Under 2

Fisher-Price Soft & Safe Basketball Set

Indoor ball-pit set · 5 air-filled balls · $18.99-$19.00
  • A pop-up fabric and mesh "court" with a fabric backboard; folds flat for storage.
  • Five soft, air-filled balls instead of hard rubber ones.
  • Target's listing calls it the "Basketball Pit Soft Play Equipment - 11pc".
  • The listings disagree with each other: Target's spec table says 11.75 inches tall and 12 months+, while the product image shows 28.25 inches tall and Target's own copy says ages 2+.

This isn’t a hoop on a pole. It’s a soft ball pit with a backboard on one side, made for a living room. For a child under 2 who mostly wants to drop a ball through something, it’s the cheapest Fisher-Price option at $18.99 (Target, marked down from $27.99) or $19.00 (Walmart.com). Target showed it as sold out when we checked, so Walmart may be the easier place to find it. Don’t buy it for outdoor use or for a child old enough to shoot from a distance.

3. B.B. Hoopster: Electronic Game, Mostly Out of Stock

The B.B. Hoopster (Mattel model GYM22, also HGP31) is an electronic basketball toy rather than a hoop. Mattel’s instruction sheet describes a motorized base that moves the hoop, four game modes, and 4 C batteries that aren’t included, and it’s rated for ages 3 and up. Walmart.com showed it out of stock on November 4, 2026, with a last price of $46.97. If you find one, it works as a game, but it won’t teach shooting form the way a fixed hoop does.

Discontinued Fisher-Price hoops (for used and hand-me-down sets)

Secondhand Fisher-Price hoops are usually Mattel-made models from the list below. On the 72408, CPSC says the model number is on the back of the backboard; on other sets, check the backboard and the base. Mattel’s service site still has the instruction sheets, which is useful if a set arrives without one.

If you want a hoop that goes to 6 feet, a used 72408, J5970 or DTM17 is the only Fisher-Price way to get it. Expect to replace the net. Third-party sellers on Walmart.com list replacement rims for J5970 and J9605 at $30.99 and nets at $27.99. Our basketball hoop net replacement guide covers how to swap a net and what to check before you order one.

Check the net on any used Fisher-Price hoop: two recalls

Both Fisher-Price hoop recalls were about nets, not the pole or base:

We found no recall of the 2026 Grow-to-Pro, the Soft & Safe set or the B.B. Hoopster in the CPSC database. On any secondhand set, check that the net is attached at every loop, has no sliding knots and has no openings large enough for a child’s head. If in doubt, replace it.

Fisher-Price vs Little Tikes: toddler hoops compared

The Grow-to-Pro and the Easy Score reach the same 48-inch top height, and both are rated for 18 months to 5 years. At Walmart’s price the Fisher-Price set costs $32.21 more than the Easy Score from littletikes.com. For that you get one extra ball and a rim that starts 2 inches lower. Unless your child is a fan of the Fisher-Price brand or the Grow-to-Pro drops closer to its $44.99 MSRP, the Easy Score is the better value. Our Little Tikes guide covers its sand fill and the Adjust ‘n Jam Pro, which goes from 4 to 6 feet.

When your child outgrows a Fisher-Price hoop

The 2026 Grow-to-Pro stops at 4 feet. USA Basketball and the NBA’s youth guidelines put the rim at 8 feet for ages 7-8 (see our basketball hoop height guide), so most kids will need a second hoop by kindergarten. The usual next steps:

Whatever the size, a freestanding hoop is only as stable as its base. Our basketball hoop tip-over safety guide explains why the fill matters.

The bottom line

The 2026 Fisher-Price Grow-to-Pro Basketball Set is the Fisher-Price hoop to buy new: 28 to 48 inches in five steps, three balls and a water-or-sand base, rated for 18 months to 5 years. At Walmart’s $67.20 it’s hard to recommend over the $34.99 Little Tikes Easy Score, which reaches the same height. For a 1-year-old who plays indoors, the Soft & Safe Basketball Set ($18.99-$19.00) is the cheaper, softer start. If you want the old 3-to-6-foot Grow-to-Pro, you’ll have to buy one used, so check the model number and the net before it goes in the driveway. Buying it as a present?
